DJ Clark Kent was heavily involved in the early years of Jay’s career. He was hands on with Reasonable Doubt and he was around for the time Jay recorded a diss track to Pac. The legendary DJ told the story of how Jay recorded the track with the Rosenthal Brothers on their A Waste Of Time podcast however, Pac died before the official release and the rest is history. Never to be heard besides the one time at the Apollo. Kent’s exact words were:
Jay did a record going at ‘Pac, but right as it was about to come out, son died… It never came out because out of respect for the fact that he died… It was scathing. Like crowds was like, ‘Oh shit.’ Like it was super hard, super hard. If he was alive, there woulda been no coming back. Nothing. This was so tough. Like it, to me, it probably was one of the hardest diss records I’ve ever heard… I didn’t want a copy of it. I didn’t want a copy because I know I would’ve been compelled to figure out how to play it because it was nasty.
